About Ruth

Ruth Siburt is a lifelong Decaturite. She is the 7th of Earl and Beulah Traughber’s children, all of whom had the privilege of schools only blocks away from their home: Brush College k-6th and Lakeview 7-12.

At home and at school Siburt learned the love of story. Ruth is one of the founding members of the Decatur Area Poets and Writers.

February Physics

This morning
On the way to school
(Where algebra is much too hard)
And to work
(Where poetry almost never happens)
We came upon a surprise:

A flock of Canada geese
Infiltrated a comma of water
Edging our ice-locked lake.

“Look,” you said.
Those geese can walk on water.”

Even though
We both know the physics
Of blurred ice-to-water boundaries
This morning
We preferred an illusion

Sometimes,
When a person faces algebra
(Or some other form
Of soul-drudgery)
A little foolish magic
Is necessary
Especially
In February.
